Why Starting a Business is Urgent
It’s amazing how we dedicate ourselves to our 9-to-5 jobs. We make sure not to be late, strive to meet deadlines, and do our best in hopes of getting that next promotion. But when it comes to our God-given dreams, we often don’t give them the same energy and focus.
"It can wait."
"I'll get to it later."
"God understands—I have bills to pay!"
Yes, God understands you have responsibilities, but do you understand that He wants more for you than just paying bills?
If we truly believe that God can do "exceedingly above all we could ever ask or think," why aren’t we cooperating with what He’s called us to do? One of the biggest challenges many aspiring entrepreneurs face is finding the time and focus to work on their dreams while balancing a full-time job.
We must treat the instructions and visions God gives us with urgency. Here are a few tools to help you do just that:
1. Pray Against the Spirit of Frustration, Laziness, and Slumber
Begin by speaking His Word over your situation: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!" (Philippians 4:13). Ask for His guidance to overcome any mental or emotional barriers.
2. Be Intentional with Your Time
Set aside dedicated time each day, or at least weekly, to work on your business. Treat it with the same, if not greater, importance as your 9-to-5. This dream is God-given, and if it's God-given, it's connected to your legacy. Remember, you can’t pass down a job, but you can pass down a business!
3. Stay Organized
Break down your overall goals into smaller, manageable tasks. Whether you use a notebook or digital tools like Word or Google Docs, staying organized is key. (*I’ve included a free worksheet in the link below to help you break down your goals into an easy-to-follow to-do list.*)
4. Maintain Focus
This is not the time for social media scrolling, phone calls, or distractions. Treat your business-building time as sacred and productive—just as you would your regular work hours.
Now, imagine where your life could be a year from now if you remain focused and consistent in building the vision God has given you. There’s a limit to how much you can earn working a 9-to-5, but there’s no limit on what you can achieve when you own your business.
The world taught us to earn money, but God’s way is for us to multiply money.
